Kantrell Brown was born on Jan. 7, 1988 and grew up in Saint Matthews, South Carolina.

On the Calhoun County football team, Kantrell Brown competed as wide receiver and defensive back and lettered for three consecutive seasons. Kantrell Brown also received all-region and all-area honors for his work during his senior year, which culminated in assisting his team to the state championship game. Kantrell Brown also went to the state championship on the basketball team, where he was a two-year varsity letterer, and Kantrell Brown competed on the track team as well.

After redshirting with the Clemson Tigers in 2007, Kantrell Brown saw playing time as a reserve safety in 2008. Kantrell Brown was on special teams for four games where he recorded two tackles. By the 2009 offseason, Kantrell Brown worked so hard that he was recognized as the Most Improved Safety on the team. He went on earn a second varsity letter that fall season, seeing more playing time than the previous year.
