Chad Diehl was born on February 5, 1989 and grew up in Lyman, South Carolina. Coming out of his high school football career at James F. Byrnes High School, Chad Diehl was considered the #18 fullback in the U.S. (CollegeFootballNews.com).

Chad Diehl was not the sole representative of the James F. Byrnes High School football program to join the ranks of the Clemson Tigers. Fellow high school teammates Xavier Dye, Stanley Hunter, and Willy Korn also signed with Clemson after considering offers from other ACC schools.

In a disappointing start to his college football career, Chad Diehl broke his leg and tore ligaments in his ankle in one of his first games with the Clemson Tigers. He saw out for the rest of the 2007 season.
